A proper lawyer, who has had past experience in dealing with such cases, is from a reputed firm with the right affiliations, familiar with the legal system and the people involved such as judges and prosecution would be a good choice.
When you consult with Los Angeles DUI attorneys or from any other place for that matter, make sure you discuss the fees upfront. Some lawyers after hearing the case and the details may require you to pay a retainer. This is not a complete fee but sort of an approximation of the fee which could be higher or lower. Often many lawyers may offer a low retainer to get clients. This in turn does not mean a lawyer charging a high retainer fee is automatically the expert. Make sure you clarify about whether you need to pay an hourly fee or a flat fee, the sooner you have an idea the more relieved you would be!

Make sure you know the law fairly well before making a stand when you get pulled over.
